MDPI Highlights Steel Composite Metal Foam for Automotive Crash Protection

MDPI recently featured research published in the Journal of Composites Science examining the potential of steel Composite Metal Foam (CMF) to enhance automotive safety during high-speed frontal collisions.
Using computational simulations, researchers compared conventional vehicle front rails with designs incorporating steel CMF cores. The findings demonstrated more consistent deceleration during impact and increased the predicted collision speeds at which critical crash severity and head injury thresholds would be exceeded.
The research highlights the potential of CMF as an energy-absorbing material for next-generation automotive safety structures.
